RIVERSIDE EFC - DAY 2

As yesterday was off to a rough start where Murphy's Law prevailed until God took over, our second day went much smoother.  Most of the 'kinks' had been ironed out and we had a much more efficient time of prayer walking and ministry at VBS.

The day started off with a rally for all the teams that pushed back the day some as a brutal thunder storm came through keeping us in that church as we could not walk back to campus in that weather.   When the storm broke, we got some relief from the heat as it took the humidity away for a very brief time.  While driving to our sites, you get to learn quite a lot about our kids and what they are learning.  A couple of our kids (who shall remain nameless) learned that Elephants don't lay eggs and Maddie finally found out that Dr. Suess is not really a Doctor.  "I know he doesn't always do doctory things."

Some teams had the opportunity to pray with people during prayer walking and Erin got to show off her extreeeeeeemly limited Spanish skills when the came across someone who spoke only Spanish - Seeing how Erin was the lone "Spanish speaker" in the group - that conversation did not last all that long.  We hope the group was somehow able to communicate we were doing a VBS and that her kids were more than welcome to come and not that we thought her nose hairs needed trimming!

During VBS Cory was able to give his Gospel bracelets away to a couple kids and go through the plan of salvation with them.  Jack was able to pray with some kids and Katie S was asked by a young girl what the words of the worship songs mean.  It was really neat to have the opportunity to tell her.  But the reality of what some of these kids see or live through sunk in pretty quickly when the girl asked where we were from.  The girl asked if Katie liked Minneapolis and Katie said yes.  The girl said she hated it herself.   When asked why she replied that her 6-year old cousin was shot a few weeks ago.  Pray for this family as they deal with this.  Her and her brother came to VBS from the prayer walking efforts.  The mother stayed to watch what was going on and to have a meal too.  Please pray for this family and for more impactful ministry as the week progresses

First day we had 12 kids, second day we had 16.  Last night the kids were staying and dancing up a storm as Cory and Jack provided percussion  on the drums until a set of sticks broke, then Cory moved over to the keyboard to provide the dancing beats.  They were much more proficient at dancing than your BUMP leaders were.  During the first rally on Monday - the leaders were all brought up on stage to have a dance off for the kids.  Our group of leaders was last and although all of us did in fact go out there to 'dance' (in some parts of the country it might be viewed as someone having a bad reaction to food poisoning) we all gave it a go except Audra!  She came out - moved her arms around a couple times then quickly ran off the stage leaving the rest of us hanging out there.  When asked later which leader was the best dancer, someone told me Audra.  But seeing how she was out there for about 10 seconds total, I simply said that made her the smartest dancer.  The kids have been very non committal about who was the best, I think they are trying to not hurt our feelings!!

Pray for today - it is supposed to be the hottest one yet.
