BUMP 2011 - Twin Cities - Faith E Free Daily Update 7/17/11

Our BUMP team for Faith E. Free is composed of two youth groups, one from Omaha, NE, and the other from Pella, IA.  Our team of twenty five will be assisting Faith E. Free by putting on a VBS this week at at the church as well as participating in prayer walks and service projects in the community.  Our team is staying at North Central campus along with all other Twin Cities BUMP teams.  We will be posting daily updates and pictures to share what God is doing through us on this amazing trip.

7/17/11

Today our team ate breakfast at the college, then proceeded to attend the Sunday morning worship service of Faith E. Free.  Pastor Tom is the pastor of this church and warmly welcomed us; students from our group led worship for the service.  After the service, the church staff graciously served us lunch and immediately afterward we began to set up for a carnival that would help promote the VBS this week.  The team worked hard and set up different small games such as washers and different bean bag throwing games with prizes.  The EFCA student ministry leader also let us use a large inflatable slide modeled after the sinking Titanic which was a hit for the children as well as the student workers.  The carnival began at one o'clock and children and families slowly began to trickle in; we didn't have an overly large group because of the heat and sticky humidity.  Needless to say, the slip and slide was a popular activity!  However as the afternoon passed it became cooler and more people began to come.  Each station had a student worker supervising and almost every game resulted in a creative, fun prizes such as candy, balls, or goofy glasses.  The carnival ended at four and our hot and sweaty yet positive team proceeded to take down all the games, deflatate the Titanic, and load into our vehicles to return to campus.  After supper, we went to a rally with all of the other BUMP participants at Riverside E. Free church.  After worshipping, a very passionate Pastor Prince delivered a powerful message and gave us some tips on ministering to the surrounding area.  We also talked about how we must act responsibly at all times so as to uphold the reputation of our Lord, the churches, the BUMP staff, and ourselves.  Our group will attend a chapel service in the morning and return to the church after lunch to begin the VBS; we can't wait to seen what God has in plan for us this week!  Please be praying for the children and the families that we encounter and that each of us would be ready to outreach to them and everyone in their community.
