RIverside Day 3

Today was the hottest day of the week, it is supposed to get a little better as the week goes on.  But God has answered prayers by providing a decent breeze today while two three team went out prayer walking taking the edge off of the heat.  Several more kids came today bringing the total today to 19.

Chris S, Cory S, Katie J and Kaitlyin S presented the Gospel today with a team approach that was very well done and quite creative.  It was obvious they put a lot of thought behind doing it as a team.  The kids were very engaged in the discussion.

While three teams were prayer walking, the rest remained behind and did some clean up service in the church to spruce it up a bit.  Please keep praying for the family I mentioned yesterday that came for the first time due to the prayer walking efforts.  However they were unable to return today.  I called the mom after VBS started to give a courtesy call since the kids, and she, seemed to enjoy it so much on Tuesday.   She told me the kids loved it and asked about coming back today, but last night after VBS, her husband had some sort of diabetic incident and went to the hospital where he was still tonight.  When I reached her she was in the hospital.  If he gets out, they intend to come back tomorrow night.

We have two more days of VBS and a service project for the church planned on Friday that the entire team will be able to particpate in, mulching their front shrubbery area where their church sign is right on the intersection and the shrubbery section running most of the length of the front of the church.

We started handing out awards yesterday by noting a teen who went beyond the call of duty.  Sarah M received the first one as she went out twice on prayer walks the first day.  On Tuesday, Katie J was awarded the award for coming up with a list of things to do for the church as service projects.  What is the award?  Well it is a box of unopened cereal that we found in our van that no one in the van brought with them.  Apparently the treat bandit (Our resident 'grandma driver' - you will just have to guess who that is as we only have three drivers, me, Julie C and Lori M.)  put random treats into the vans at departure and we did not notice it until Monday.  The winner has to bring the box to their dorm each night and bring it back unopened the next day.

We also instituted the "Are you Serious?" award today.  We had two inflatable palm tress that both have holes in the tree but not the base - so they ended up being pretty useless.  BUMP started two nights ago allowing some youth groups to sleep on the floor in air conditioined rooms in the chapel - a guys and a girls room, due to the oppressive heat.  Not enough room for all to sleep there, so they are rotating youth groups.  Our turn came last night if we so wanted to accept the offer.  I immediately did, and the offer was warmly recieved - pun intended.  But for some reason - Josh S, decided to stay in a dorm room and Alli did take us up on the offer but later complained it was too cold  ARE YOU SERIOUS?  Our main helper at Riverside is named Carlos and he called it the "No Way Jose!" award.  We will see how the week progresses

Keep praying.  I have a very good team.
